Crocheted Head Scarf
Out of print.
This pattern was
available for free.
No gauge given. Garment is in essence a triangular mesh shawl draped over the head with a draw-cord inserted in a semicircle 12” from centre of long side to gather it in around the throat - size easily adaptable, but original is made with 232 base chain.
The pattern specifies a “crochet hook size 1”: note that this does not appear to correspond to a modern B/1 hook.
Quantities suggested: knitting cotton in 100-yard skeins, 3 skeins in base colour plus 1 in another colour for edging and fringe. No.600 Knitting & Crochet Cotton is described as ideal in size “for making sweaters, hats, afghans, rugs etc.”, therefore presumably relatively thick.
Date circa 1940s.
