Crocheted Round Shawl
Out of print.
This pattern was
available for free.
A simple open mesh round shawl with added cluster rows set in the middle of contrast stripes, and a neck frill. The yoke is formed of crochet chains with the lower section created from the more open Solomon’s knot stitch. The shawl ties at the neck with cord finished by pompoms.
The pattern specifies a “crochet hook size 1”: note that this does not appear to correspond to a modern B/1 hook.
Quantities suggested: knitting cotton in 100-yard skeins, 2 skeins in base colour for body of shawl plus 2 contrast colours for edging and stripe. No.600 Knitting & Crochet Cotton is described as ideal in size “for making sweaters, hats, afghans, rugs etc.”, therefore presumably relatively thick.
Date circa 1940s.
