The Cotton Candy Swirl is a symmetrical triangular shawl, knitted top down, using two colors and featuring short rows “swirls” to add interest and ornament to an almost traditional shawl shape.

The simple stitches of the main body, allow the contrast color and contrast stitches of the swirls to pop and attract eyes to them, while a garter stitch border decorates the edges of this shawl, to keep it from curling and tying together both main color and contrast color.

Although presented in solid colors this pattern can work nicely with a combination of a solid and a semi-solid, or solid and speckles, if the yarn present enough contrast to avoid losing the view of the swirls that are the starts of this design. Choose your favorite color combination to create this fashion statement piece to add it to your wardrobe or to gift to the very special people in your life.

Is important to notice that the short rows in this shawl don’t need the yarn to be “wrapped” to avoid creating an opening, because the main stitches used for the swirl were designed to have openings. This makes it a great way to experiment with short rows without worrying about the “wrapping technique” that normally is required in many short rows patterns.
