“Mm … how delicious!” - the thought that occurs every time clotted cream melts on the tongue. It is the essential companion to a batch of British scones, instant gratification and comfort. Just like this sweater which was designed to be a version of the long-loved white all-over cable knit so you can wrap up and feel great.

The Clotted Cream Pullover is precisely that - creamy, relaxed fit, beautiful cables and bobbles, high turtleneck… A classic with a twist. Knitters who have tried this pattern admit that they knit it with the same pleasure as enjoying a desert - savouring every twist and bobble.

Designed to be worn with 10-20 cm / 4-8” ease, to fit busts with circumference:

• 70-80 (80-90, 90-100, 100-110, 110-120, 120-130, 130-140, 140-150) cm

Yarn: DK weight, allow approximately:

• 1395 (1525, 1675, 1815, 1950, 2145, 2285, 2495) m
• 1525 (1665, 1830, 1985, 2130, 2345, 2500, 2730) yds

Yarn used in sample (Size 3) is 15 balls of Willow & Lark Poetry (60% Merino wool, 10% Camel, 30% Acrylic, 114m/125yds/50g), Clotted Cream colourway.

Gauge: 20 sts & 30 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Seed stitch on larger needles, blocked.

Suggested needles:

• 4mm (US 6) circulars 60cm / 24”
• 3.25mm (US 4) circulars and/or DPNs for small circumference knitting

Notions: Stitch markers, crochet hook, row counter, scissors, tape measure, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle, removable markers if using Japanese short rows.

Techniques used: Twisted stitches, cables, bobbles, lifted increases, sloped bind-off, short rows, Mattress stitch.

Difficulty: Intermediate.

Construction notes: The pullover is worked bottom-up in the round up to underarms, where the front and back are split and worked separately while decreasing and increasing to shape the armhole. Shoulders are shaped with sloped bind-off and seamed at the top. Stitches are picked up around armholes and sleeves are worked top-down in the round to cuffs. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neckline and the turtleneck worked in the round.
