This pattern evolved from my BUTTERFLY/Papillion Shawl.
This is a doubled version of that design, worked in the round. It has garter LINES and stocking knit SHAPES.
It is a natural evolution from the original and shows off the magic of the random and specific short row shapes, growing as the piece widens systematically.
It introduces some new concepts in working in the round, like making short rows back and forth over the beginning of the round. This allowed the shapes to grow as they did in the original triangular shawl, but contended with different parameters.
LARGER SAMPLE/OPTION: URTH YARNS (5’ x 5’ size)
MC: 8 skeins UNEEK WORSTED 100g = 220yds/201m
I used 8 skeins #4008 (800g = 1760yds/1608m)
CC: 4 skeins HARVEST WORSTED 100g = 220yds/201m
I used 4 skeins Hazelnut (400g = 880yds/804m)
SMALLER OPTION: URTH YARNS (4’ x 4’ size)
MC: 4 skeins UNEEK WORSTED 100g = 435yds/400m
I used 4 skeins #4008 (400g = 880yds/808m)
CC: 2 skeins HARVEST WORSTED 100g = 220yds/201m
I used 2 skeins Hazelnut (200g = 440yds/402m)
Blanket SIZE:
Varies with blocking, but LARGE (sample, shown) SIZE = 5’ x 5’ / 2 section version (smaller size) = 4’ x 4’
Gauge:
Using US 07s/4.5mm and stocking knit stitch – this gauge is in pattern and after blocking.
Gauge is not crucial and will be impacted by blocking.
20 sts to 4” & 28 rows to 4”
Needles:
Needles, round, size 40” (or larger) US 07/4.5mm. Towards the end, I used attached cable needles to give me about 90” of cable. You can also use multiple sets of needles. The piece starts small with magic loop or DPN’s and gets very big.
