Christmas Tree Afghan Square
You get to try out several different interesting techniques when you make this square. The first is tapestry crochet; using tapestry crochet, you’ll work a chart to complete what looks like a basic triangle shape.
The next step is to create the background using cross stitch. There’s another chart to help you with that, and I’ve posted a work-in-progress photo so you can see what the project looks like at this point in the creative process.
After that, you add the final details using surface crochet. In case you aren’t familiar with this particular surface crochet technique, I’ve posted a work-in-progress photo of the surface crochet on this actual project to help you visualize the process -- and I also have a free surface crochet slip stitch tutorial available. Please check out the tutorial if you need to see step-by-step instructions and more pictures on how to do this technique.
