Imbolc marks the first stirrings of spring. Although snow may still be falling, snowdrops are just beginning to bud and celebrations are underway for the festival of St Brigid, Goddess of Healing, Poetry, Smithing and other crafts.
Pagan rituals to honour Brigid often include lighting white candles, reciting poetry and visiting holy wells or sacred springs. In Christian traditions, 02 February marks the festival of Candlemas (or Candle Mass) when candles used in church are blessed for the year ahead.
Candlelight is a rectangle shawl/stole that is knit in one piece from bottom to top. The design was created to reflect pillars of candles using candlelight lace and columns of garter stitch.
The sample show has been created using fingering weight yarn but you can adapt the pattern to use any weight. Just be mindful to have enough yarn to complete your project before you start!
