Broken Rib Stirrup Socks
These stirrup socks are great for fall and spring - when you want to have the look of a bulky handknit sock without having to wear your big roomy winter boots. The stirrups make it easy to wear sneakers or light boots without your feet being all cram jammed with socks that are way too bulky. Stranding together a sport weight mohair with a worsted weight wool gives added strength to heavy wear areas like ankles and soles of feet. These socks are knit in the round until work is split into two “legs” each worked flat and then grafted with Kitchener stitch at the bottom.
Materials needed:
Yarn: 120 yards/110m of worsted weight wool, 120 yards/110m of sport weight mohair stranded together throughout.
Shown in: Brooklyn Tweed Shelter and Diamond Luxury Pure Superkid Mohair.
Size: 1 size fits most.
Gauge: 18 st and 29 rows over 4”/10cm in Broken Rib
Needles: 4mm DPNs or needles for required gauge. Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
