This is a great project to learn and get comfortable with flat Brioche knitting! Worked flat, this hat gives a sideways twist to the standard Brioche Rib, with the main color Brioche lines wrapping horizontally around the head. The hat can be made shorter for a standard fit or longer for a fold-up brim, folded up as much as you like. If the brim folds up, the side with the contrasting color will show on the brim, adding interest to the hat!

This is the sister hat to the Katarina Hat, which will teach two-color Brioche Rib worked in the round, and how to work decreases with Brioche. That one is a bit easier so it might be a better one to make first if you’re brand new to Brioche! This pattern will teach you two-color Brioche worked flat, and working short rows in two-color Brioche.

This hat was designed for two yarns: the front-facing yarn being a pop of color in a yarn that’s not quite next-to-skinsoft, and the inside-facing yarn, which will hug your head, is a super-soft yarn. If you have alpaca sensitivity, choose a yarn without alpaca content as the CC yarn, which will touch your skin the most.
