Barragan KAL
KATH ANDREWS has designed this elegant shawl for our new four-part knitalong. “Mexican architect, Luis Barragán, is quoted as saying ‘A garden must combine the poetic and the mysterious with a feeling of serenity and joy’. This wrap uses yarns whose colours are named ‘My Serenity’ and ‘My Joy’”, Kath explains. Her design is knitted in McIntosh BFL, a hand-dyed 4ply yarn spun from pure British Bluefaced Leicester wool.
The full pattern is now available directly from my Ravelry store.
The pattern has been updated, making it easier to follow. All the charts are optional.
Barragán was originally designed using 3.25mm needles and this option is offered here and is recommended, as well as the option published in The Knitter magazine using 3mm needles. The photographs show the wrap knitted using 3.25mm needles.
Yarn Quantities using 3.25mm needles (with 4mm needles to cast on and cast off) - recommended:
A: MY Joy, 2 x 100g/400m skeins (161g used in sample)
B: MY Serenity, 2 x 100g/400m skeins (161g) used in sample)
Yarn Quantities using 3mm needles (with 3.75mm needles to cast on and cast off) (as published in the magazine):
A: MY Joy, 1 x 150g/600m skein
B: MY Serenity, 1 x 150g/600m skein
There is a slightly shorter version of Part Three (recommended if using these needles and this quantity of yarn) included in the full version of the pattern to avoid running out of yarn; work 1 fewer repeat of the stitch pattern in Part Three on each side. The edging (Part Four) will still fit.
