These socks originated from a desire to use up leftover yarn in a creative way: I thought it would be interesting to play around with both horizontal and vertical stripes within the same sock. The end result is a fun pair of socks using a variety of simple stranded colorwork patterns. The charts in this pattern can be mixed and matched to one’s heart’s content. In addition, the pattern could be knit using only two colors of yarn, or it could be knit with a different main color and contrasting color in each chart.

The pattern includes instructions for cuff-down sock with a short-row heel using German Short Rows. It would be possible to substitute another type of heel or to convert to toe-up if desired. A Fish Lips Kiss Heel or an afterthought heel would work particularly well with this pattern.

SIZES: Medium, (Large).

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 7.5 (8.85) inches leg circumference, unstretched. Foot length is customizable.

YARN REQUIREMENTS: Approximately 360 (435) yards of fingering weight sock yarn total in at least two different colors. Exact yarn requirements will vary based on gauge, charts worked, and number of colors chosen.

The sample in size medium with a 9 inch foot used 220 yards of Cascade Heritage in White (MC), 70 yards of Knit Picks Stroll in Eggplant (CC1), and 65 yards of Knit Picks Stroll in Peapod (CC2).

A two color version would require around 220 (265) yards MC and 140 (170) yards CC.

Please note that this pattern has not been test knit. As such, please let me know if you encounter any problems, and I will update the pattern accordingly. Thanks!
