This is the final pattern in my Baby Ocean & Others eBook and it is very special to me because I used my 6-year-old daughter’s artwork as the inspiration!

She drew Feline the Deer on her chalkboard for me to use, and I did create a pattern afterwards, but this Fish pattern is based on artwork she painted with her Nana B (see the pictures).

It’s the perfect size for a baby blanket! Or, you can join it to other squares to create an adult-sized blanket! Learn more at https://ashleeslint.com/2021/08/06/baby-fish/

Originally published in 2021 with just two files (one for interlocking crochet and one for overlay mosaic crochet), this pattern was updated in April 2026 to include a third file (another mosaic crochet option, this one using an adjusted chart). Read more about the differences between these files at https://ashleeslint.com/tutorials/interlocking-and-mosaic-crochet/.

You will receive three files.

  • interlocking crochet: line-by-line written pattern, single-page chart, 6-page chart,
  • overlay mosaic crochet (original): line-by-line written pattern, single-page X-marked chart, 6-page X-marked chart,
  • overlay mosaic crochet (adjusted, solid): line-by-line written pattern, single-page X-marked chart, 6-page X-marked chart.

Techniques
The Locked Filet Mesh (LFM) interlocking crochet method uses only chain spaces and double crochets to create a mesh; two colors are worked alternately which creates the pattern.

Mosaic crochet uses single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting).

I have YouTube tutorials available for both crochet methods! Follow this link to get to my YouTube channel and find my other social links: https://ashleeslint.com/link-in-bio
