Aspidistra elatior were the darling houseplant of Victorian parlours and sitting rooms. So hardy they’ve been nicknamed the ‘Cast Iron Plant, their striking green foliage has brought cheer to many a dark corner.

The lace patterning on this toe-up sock captures the elegant curve of an Aspidistra leaf. As much as I like a pretty sock, I also like them to be wearable. This lace is low profile and comfortable in a shoe. The heel and back of leg are plain and sleek for speed of knitting and for comfort.

Materials

• 1 skein of Vintage Purls Sock (75% Superwash N.Z.Merino, 25% Nylon; 384metres/420yards per100g skein).
• 2.25mm needles or size that gives you gauge. You can use double-point needles, Magic Loop, or two circular needles - whichever method you prefer working with.
• 2 stitch markers (plus a few more of a different colour/kind if you plan to use double point needles).

Gauge
36 stitches and 48 rows in 10cm (4”) in stocking stitch. It is important to work to gauge to ensure fit.

Size
This pattern contains three sizes for a range of adult feet and two toe options so you can create a customized fit.

• Small fits a foot approximately 18 - 20cm/7-8” around at the ball.
• Medium fits a foot approximately 20 - 23cm/8-9” around at the ball.
• Large fits a foot approximately 23 - 25cm/9-10” around at the ball.
