Suitable for beginning lace knitters, the Ascend cowl is much easier to knit than it’s graceful appearance belies. A ribbing border flows easily into an adaptation of a traditional Estonian stitch that spirals up around the cowl naturally using only the simplest of lace elements.

Worked in the round from the bottom up, with an easy-to-memorize stitch pattern (presented in both written and charted forms), from a chunky, quick-knit yarn, the Ascend cowl is a fun and satisfying project.

If you are a more advanced lace knitter then (shhhh) you don’t have to tell anyone how easy it was to make!

Needles: Needles for working in the round, in size needed to achieve desired gauge; needle size listed is a suggested starting point - working your swatch in the round and blocking prior to measuring is recommended in order to determine correct needle size

Gauge: 14 sts/ 19 rnds = 4”/ 10cm in blocked stockinette st, worked in the round; 12 sts/ 20 rnds = 4”/ 10cm in blocked Ascend pattern, worked in the round

A note on gauge: Working at a different gauge than specified may result in a variance in cowl size and yardage required; blocking method used may also affect finished size
