The Arctic Front Toque is inspired by the most frigid and unforgiving winds of winter. The temperature might look only somewhat bone-chilling, but on some winter days the wind chill blasting between the buildings of downtown Ottawa is downright inhumane. That’s when you need your warmest knitted items, like this bulky-weight hat!

Pattern Description

This warm, comfortable hat uses no-cable-needle cables and elongated stitches to create a unique and interesting fabric. Those elongated stitches also highlight the subtle colour details we all love in handpainted yarns! Meant to be just slightly slouchy as a nod to the traditional conical Canadian toque, this hat features a crown knit in pattern as well as a simple 1x1-rib cuff. Add a snap pompom to the top for an added pop of colour!

This pattern requires the knitter to be able to knit in the round (both on double-pointed needles and circular needles) and clearly explains all techniques required. Within the pattern you will find links to useful video tutorials as well, so the pattern is easily accessible to an intermediate knitter. Corresponding written instructions are provided for the charts.

Sizes available: Newborn (Infant, Baby, Toddler, Child Small, Child Large/Preteen, Adult Small, Adult Large) for mean head circumferences of 30 (34, 38.5, 43, 47, 51.5, 56, 60) cm / 11.75 (13.375, 15.125, 17, 18.5, 20.25, 22, 23.5) inches

Yarn requirements: Approximately 40 (45, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100) m / 45 (50, 55, 65, 75, 90, 100, 110) yards of bulky weight yarn (110-125 m / 120-140 yards per 100g); the hat height is adjustable, so yarn usage may vary accordingly

The texture used in this pattern works with nearly any colourway, since it both pulls out subtle dye details and breaks up pooling.
