The Anatolian Goddess has been dancing in my imagination since I first connected with her while researching the second book in my Crime by Design series, Warp in the Weave. She’s a mysterious deity embraced by peoples of Asia Minor thousands of years ago, and most likely also the seed for later goddesses that ruled the ancient, such as the illustrious Artemis. As such, she represents the cycle of life, rebirth, and the essence of feminine power. Before suppressed by very male-centric conquerors, she ruled. She’s my symbol for perseverance and strength under pressure. Besides, I love her style--that headdress!

The motif band of the Goddess Cape is worked in intarsia using an ombre background moving from light to dark to create that luminous glow behind her divine self. Think of the goddess silhouetted against a sunrise. When choosing your background, plan on at least 3 different tones of the same hue to achieve the effect. Alternatively, keep it simple by choosing a lighter monochromatic background with the motif worked in a darker yarn.

The same motif background colors are echoed throughout the cape in bands of stockinet and garter. My base color is a deep pine green punched up with gold, orange, rust, and red, but when taking orders for custom kits, colors ranged from tropical sea to Monet. I can’t wait to see how those unfold. Color options, as always, are limitless. And so, by the way, are the yarn choices.

The design takes approximately 600+ of mixed yarns, depending on desired length and width.
