Along the Curving Path: Short Row Tunic
This design is part of the 2015 Inspired Knitters Art to Wear Club
Free-range short row construction
In organic fiber art, the unplanned edge invokes the best adventure. You simply cannot plan a project to the last row and stitch with this style of knitting. Don’t even try. Here, tangents and unstructured rites of passage shape the terrain. Even if I wanted , I could never duplicate this Curving Path Tunic exactly. It refuses to be cloned. In true organic spirit, it was born in a series of tangential steps, ones that I can offer as guideposts for your own unique adventure.
The tunic is created in two pieces, front and back, using the steps described in the 21-page ebook guide. By design, the piece is made to be loose with short row wedges forming subtle pleats along the lower edge to add a note of swirl. These short row inserts are added with small notes of intarsia to create visual interest. The front is knit in pure multi-directional short rows while the back is worked side to side. After the front and back are sewn together, the yoke is unified by knitting in the round on circular needles.
