Almost Aran is a scarf that features the lovely cabling seen on aran sweaters, but is a smaller project than a full sweater! Get your cable fix without having to worry about finishing a whole sweater!

This scarf features an optional faux mobius twist that is put in after the entire scarf is knitted. You get the option of a lovely twist without having to work a twisted project.

This pattern has been tested for clarity and accuracy, and includes a photo tutorial for blocking a tube scarf without resulting flat edges.

For those of you who have asked, the mitts in the third photo are my Mitts for Romeo a free pattern!

Notes:

  • The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.
  • Cabling without a cable needle is a good skill to have for this pattern as cables are worked through the entire scarf.
  • Because this scarf is knit as a tube, a light worsted yarn is suggested instead of a heavier #4 yarn.
  • The larger two sizes will create a very thick scarf. Testers recommend the two smaller sizes as ideal for everyday wear, and the larger two sizes as suitable for very cold weather.
  • Gauge is important - check before you knit!

Yarns used in testing include:

  • Knitters Brewing Co. Sock-aholic Brewski Irresistible Irish Ale
  • Lion Brand Heartland
  • Lion Brand Wool Ease
  • Brown Sheep Worsted
  • Ella Rae Classic
