{An Easy Shawl-Hood}
……………………….

You could recognise a rural woman in the city instantly by her shawl. Vast yet compact,
well-loved, and decidedly utilitarian. Worn simultaneously as a scarf and head cover,
it looked both out of place and charming, paired with a formal overcoat, on a city tram.

In my patent leather shoes and school-clothes, whilst en route to music lessons in a stuffy urban flat, I watched the woman and daydreamed of harvesting corn with my grandmother.
She too would wrap me in a shawl like this, folding the fabric hood-like over my head to protect from the elements.

It was still a country habit then, to never leave the house without this sartorial essential.
And for me, it remains the epitome of rural glamour - which is why I find the recent trend
 of the shawl/hood hybrid so welcome. This exceptionally simple version in Varv is my small
contribution to the genre.
