If you’re anything like me, I cannot wait for fall when the temperatures get cooler and the leaves change colors. This change in seasons is reflected in the transitions between colors in this cowl. At each transition, there are some fun stitches, followed by a stockinette section that shows the beauty of each color.

While I have written this pattern for twelve 20g fingering weight mini skeins (a half-vent set), it can also be used with a mini skein set that has 10 colors for a slightly smaller cowl, or with an advent set of 24 mini skeins for a double wrap cowl.

Pattern contains both written instructions as well as a video tutorial for the leaf stitches.

Finished Measurements: 8” (20cm) wide x 36” (91cm) circumference, lightly blocked.

Gauge: 25 stitches and 32 rows over 4” (10cm) in stockinette stitch in the round

Yarn:
Fingering weight yarn:
12 x 20g (85yds / 78m per 20g) miniskeins,
or a total of 1020yds / 933m.

For a slightly smaller circumference cowl, may use 10 x 20g miniskeins.

For a larger double wrap cowl, may use 24 x 20g miniskeins, such as an advent kit.

Needles: Size 4 (3.5mm) 16” (40cm) circular needle, plus another Size 4 circular needle (may be longer than 16”) or one size smaller.

Using the two circular method, or a circular long enough to do magic loop are also options if 16” circulars are uncomfortable.

Extras: A crochet hook in a similar size to your knitting needle, scrap yarn, stitch marker, 2 removable stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
