#46 Sleeping Pillow
Original Japanese name: スリーピングピロー (Surīpingu pirō).
Pattern includes directions for two lace sachets, one round and one square. These are meant to put scented flowers such as lavendar in and then tuck them under your pillow for aromatherapy while you sleep.
Through row 5 (represented by the darkest shaded circle in the diagrams), the instructions for both are identical; different edge instructions result in either round or square finished item. In case it’s unclear from the diagrams, you make two lace motifs (the darkest shade of gray in the schematics), seam them together by adding the edging (lighter gray shaded areas and outer edge (unshaded)). If you wanted to make this into a lace handbag or pouch, you could leave a small opening at the top and omit the potpourri.
Gauge
Gauge is not listed in the pattern, but it calls for Japanese size 2 (1.5 mm) hook. Not to be confused with Japanese size 2/0 hook, which is 2.0 mm.
Yarn
There’s no yarn information other than that you should use about 13-14 grams of “lace yarn”; based on needle size range given, this is fingering or light fingering (3-ply), not what is commonly called “laceweight” in English. Based on cotton yarns of this size, I estimate 14g would be approx. 49.4 meters (54.02 yards).
