Small rat: (7.5cm long)

  • Japanese size 5/0 crochet hook (3.0mm)
  • 6g yarn
  • 2 wooden beads for eyes (4mm)
  • 1 wooden bead for nose (5mm)
  • small amount stuffing
  • crochet with 1 strand

Large rat: (9.5cm long)

  • Japanese size 8/0 crochet hook (5.0mm)
  • 20g yarn
  • 2 wooden beads for eyes (5mm)
  • 1 wooden bead for nose (8mm)
  • small amount stuffing
  • crochet with two strands (except tail)

(Note: The name nezumi could be translated ‘rat’ or ‘mouse’, and I have to admit it looks like a cute mouse to me. But together with fuku ‘good luck’, it makes sense as a rat. That’s because in Japanese Buddhist tradition, a white rat is the messenger of Daikoku, one of the gods of good fortune. So I’ve chosen to translate it as ‘rat’ here. Either way, it’s a cute amigurumi rodent.)
