From The Fibre Co.
“Fruits of the forest”
As The Fibre Co. gathered momentum, we realised that in order to keep supplying knitters with the yarns they loved, we’ d need to move on from the mini mill in Maine where we first developed our range. Yarn development has always started with our founder, Daphne, who trials blends of newly sourced fibre and draws from her years of dye experiments creating the perfect yarn colour. Canopy was our first yarn developed outside the mini mill and so has special place in our heart as the yarn that signalled that The Fibre Co. was ready to unite makers worldwide in their love for luxurious fibres.
Our yarns are always blended from all natural fibre and the rising popularity of bamboo as a sustainable resource was an obvious choice to add incredible sheen and strength to a new breed of TFC yarns. Bamboo is a fast growing plant, with some species being amongst some of the fastest in the world, replenishing harvested stocks. While developing this blend, Daphne was often reminded of the canopies in the tropical rainforest of Africa, one of the many diverse climates bamboo thrives in. Daphne’ s previous work life had led to several years spent in Africa and so a colour palette was developed that was reminiscent of the fauna and flora of these tropical ecosystems. It’ s why our tagline for Canopy has always been ‘ fruits of the forest’ and we love the heady mix of bright, rich duotones that resulted.
Canopy works incredibly well for colourwork due to its smooth 3 ply twist. Alpaca and bamboo combine for delicate drape while merino provides just enough tensile strength to give this yarn a little bounce. In the hand it’ s springy and plump and glides comfortably on the needles. The fabric is silky yet plush so versatile for most crafting needs. Our worsted version of Canopy is ideal for creating cozy garments with elegant silhouettes. Stitches worked into a fabric are crisp yet satisfyingly plump, making this a yarn range for all seasons with a fingering option alongside the worsted weight.
Product Description:
Canopy was our first yarn developed outside the mini mill in Maine and has special place in our heart as the yarn that signalled that The Fibre Co. was ready to unite makers worldwide in their love for luxurious fibres blends. A mix of alpaca, bamboo and merino means a soothing drape with a cozy warmth too. The 3 ply of the yarn provides good stitch definition that means it works well for both colorwork and textured knits.
