Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
When I saw the colors in this yarn, they reminded me of a field of crocus flowers. These little blossoms are often the first sign of spring. I sometimes say that spring, as a season, isn’t reliable around here until (at least) Mother’s Day. There’s nothing like a little color in your wardrobe to make you feel a little better about chilly weathe...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
NOTE - the green in these socks is actually a true, grass green, not a teal. My iPhone did something weird to the color! The photo on top is truer to shade.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Note: This is the top-down version, only. The toe-up version is a separate pattern.

In Heel Flap, Step 2, the end of Setup Row 1 should read: 28 (30, 32, 34, 38) sts on the needles.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Pattern was exclusive to the ModeKnit Yarn Sock Club until September 30th, 2016. It is now available from the designer.
Knitting: Slippers
About a year ago, one of my knitting students brought me a well-loved slipper that her mother made her about 30 years ago. She asked me if it would be possible to write a pattern from it. I did my best. Then, about a week later, a friend of mine dropped an old booklet on my desk.
Knitting: Cowl
When I saw the deceptively simple tilework in a courtyard at the the Palace of Versailles, I knew I had to knit it. It makes for lovely, easy-to-knit, but striking colorwork. A small band of garter stitch at the beginning and end of the piece prevents curling.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Socks are meant to have zero ease (in other words, actually be the size of the foot) and are 8.25 [8.75, 9.5, 10.5] inches around and 8.66 [9.66, 10.66, 11] inches long.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I want to show off the design possibilities for self-striping yarn and my favorite afterthought heel. However, to keep the length of the foot easily customizable, the sock needs to be made out of order and from the top down. The “afterthought” heel is made after the leg and before the foot. So, an unusually-shaped sock, worked in the most commo...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Have we all knit sideways garter-stitch hats? I have, and l loved them. Dee liked the one I made her, but requested a hat with more drape and less of a “You know, sticking-up area in the back.” This is the result.
Knitting: Slippers
These are toe-up, lightly-felted slippers for when you need just a little extra padding and warmth - perfect for when you’ve kicked off your shoes at home. They are felted to fit the wearer.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This easy, top-down shawl shows off handpainted yarns perfectly. Increases and decreases create zigzags within the fabric.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
It’s not quite warm enough to go without a hat, but springtime is right around the corner (I hope)!
Knitting: Baby Blanket
The “bellybutton” in the name refers to the shape of the center of the blanket.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
The majority of the knitting on these lovely smocked mitts is done inside-out and from the top to the bottom. So, a little unusual, but very easy!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This is a fun, ribbed hat in two sizes - one to fit adults and one for babies. There is a lot of stretch in the ribbing, so the “adult” hat will fit most children, too.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I was inspired by the silky drape and color shifts of Panda Silk in Firebird (color 5201).
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
My final size was 56” across and 24” deep. More or fewer rows could be worked to change the size, though.
Knitting: Slippers
These slippers are a new take on my Short-Row Felted Slipper pattern. I still love the old pattern, but this version is a little faster and easier to work. I have turned out a pair in less than 4 hours. So, if you have a Sunday morning, you could whip up a pair, too.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This is a top-down, semi-circular shawl. An innovative, but easy, double-knit side edge is incorporated as you knit, so other than darning in ends, there is practically no finishing at all.
Knitting: Christmas Stocking
I had a few challenges with this little pattern. First of all, when I made the original chart, I didn’t leave enough of the pattern color in the corners, so my floats were too long, and it ended up kind of strange. Also, my floats were super-tight, overall. After pulling on the stocking for a while and cursing, I decided to try again. I added s...
Knitting: Component (stitch, edge) - Other
Afterthought heels, also called inserted heels, are great for when you just don’t want to work a heel along with the sock - when you’re knitting in the dark or on a plane and are getting motion-sick anyway. I also like them, just anyway, because they open up a lot of style and construction possibilities that might be hard to work in the usual d...
Knitting: Gloves
I got permission from Pamela to suggest this addition to her Knucks pattern. The fingers are knit back-and-forth on two needles, in double-knitting.
