Knitting: Beanie, Toque, Cowl
A Merino singles yarn knits up into a super soft and squishy hat and cowl. Requiring one skein of yarn for the hat and two for the cowl, both knit up quickly.
Knitting: Cowl
The Monk’s Cloth Cowl is worked in the round in an easy basketweave mesh stitch. 60” in circumference, it can be worn long or wrapped twice around the neck.
Knitting: Scarf
The Elektron Scarf is worked sideways with a knit as you go edging to use up every bit of handspun yarn. Sample measures 13” x 72”, but the size is easily adjustable. There is lace patterning on both sides of the stockinette based body and garter stitch edging.
Knitting: Cowl
Orenji is knit back and forth on the bias and then the ends are grafted to form a circular cowl. A mohair/silk blend yarn makes Orenji soft and light but surprisingly warm when wrapped twice around the neck. Beads add a subtle (or not so subtle!) accent and a little weight to the edges to help prevent curling.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
When worked on larger needles, brioche stitch variations yield an open, airy fabric that is architectural rather than motif based. Brioche Architecture combines three of these stitches in a ¾ circle shawl that wraps easily around the shoulders. The brioche stitches are a great match for a haloed or variegated yarn, which can sometimes obscure c...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Triplicity is a reversible wrap knit in three colors of fingering weight yarn (only one color is used per row). A brioche stitch variation knit on larger needles yields a light, open fabric that still retains a little classic brioche texture. The stitch pattern is interesting on both sides - I actually prefer the “wrong” side, which has a sort ...
Knitting: Scarf
This interpretation of the traditional seaman’s scarf employs fisherman’s rib and double knitting to achieve the effect of a narrow neckband and wide tails.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Leaves float in a mesh of dropped stitches. A silk-blend sock yarn makes for sumptuous wrapping or romantic draping.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
These socks are worked toe-up to use up every bit of handspun yarn. The refracting wave pattern is somewhat illusory – on the chart, it appears that the stockinette portion is wandering back and forth on the ribbed portion, but on the sock the ribbed portion appears to be wandering on the stockinette portion.
Knitting: Mittens
When my husband requested felted one-fingered mitts for Christmas, I replied doubtfully, “I don’t know, I’ve never seen any like that but maybe I can find a pattern,” while silently thinking, “Yes! A knitted gift he can really use!” My husband is of the hot-blooded variety - he never wears sweaters or scarves or hats any of the other items knit...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
When I purchased this bamboo/merino blend fiber from Spunky Eclectic at the Maine Fiber Frolic, I knew it was destined for a lace project that would showcase the progression dye. It marinated in my stash for several months, until the 4! Ounce! Challenge! was announced on Ravelry. The challenge was to spin, design, knit, and publish an original ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The fairy Melusina (or Melusine) falls in love with a mortal and agrees to marry him on one condition: he must never see her on Saturday, when she takes her bath. Enchanted by her beauty, he agrees, but eventually breaks his promise and spies on her at her bath. He discovers that from the waist down, she is a fish, a serpent, or a dragon. When ...
