A theme of Trolls in the Folklore and Fairy Tales group brought to mind D’Aulaires’ The Terrible Troll Bird, a favorite tale when we were growing up.
The tam uses motifs inspired by elements of the story, with the background shading from dark to light. It then finishes with the “silver” button.
The mitts use the same colorways and some of the same motifs.
Size: Both are sized for the average adult. The tam will fit a head circumference of 21-23 inches (53-58cm). The mitts have a finished circumference of about 7 inches (17.75cm) with an approximate length of 6.5 inches (16.5cm).
Yarn colors: 9 colors of fingering weight yarn are used in the pattern, 5 background (B1 to B5) and 4 contrast (C1 to C4).
The 5 background colors should be one color family that shades from dark to light.
The contrast colors used in the sample are red, lilac, brown, and cream.
