As Barina sat at lunch with her bento box filled with a hamburger and milkshake, pretzels and cheese, she realized school was about to let out for the summer. So many exciting things were on the horizon. She quickly finished up and went back to class. A familiar tune was playing in her head and her mind was already dancing! The end of day bell couldn’t ring fast enough!

“OK, class, let’s settle down,” said Ms. Tina. Barina had such fond admiration for her. Not only was she an amazing teacher but she was also an inspiration to her. Ms. Tina was a former prima ballerina and brought all of that grace and beauty to the classroom. Barina counted herself as one lucky bunny!

“You have all done so well this year. I am so very proud of each and every one of you! As our end of the year reward, we will be enjoying Izzy ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cones. So let’s gather around and let the party begin!” And with that, 18 very happy little students scurried towards the table filled with yummy delights.

Having had their fill of yummy treats, Barina and her classmates settled down for the last time in their seats. Once again Barina began to think. Next year we would all be in a different grade, have a different teacher and maybe even a different school. Changes were coming and Barina was a little scared. Growing up seemed kind of scary and she wasn’t really sure she wanted to do it. Maybe she could stay a kid forever. Hmmm. That gave her an idea. Over the summer she could find a way to stay a kid forever and then she wouldn’t have to be scared. Perfect! It was decided. That would be her summer project. She was so deep in thought that she didn’t hear Ms. Tina asking her about any big plans for the summer.

“Barina? Barina? Earth to Barina!” and her fellow classmates giggled.

“Oh, sorry. I must have dozed off from all the sugar. What was the question again?” and Barina’s cheeks turned a lovely shade of red, which was surprising considering her brown fur color.

“Do you have any big plans for the summer break?”

“Uh, no, not really. I do plan to go to the beach and to see the circus when they are in town. Besides that, I will just be a kid!” she said, knowing very well she had grand and magnificent plans, but they were top secret! Fountain of Forever Kiddom - here I come!
