Zimolez
The soil is still wet from the light shower. A welcome and refreshing interlude after the warmth of the day. A sweet fragrance fills the air. The vines reach for the sky, spreading their leaves and flowers high and wide in a twisting and coiling burst of colors.
Zimolez means honeysuckle in Slovak. The Zimolez scarf / stole is inspired by the colorful twining vines and intricate flowers of the honeysuckle. The scarf / stole combines lace patterns echoing each other, as well as color-blocking for added fun and variation. Twisting columns of stitches delineate the lace and create a reversible pattern, so pleasing for scarves and stoles. Wait no more and wrap yourself in twining beauty!
For best effect, use a yarn with reasonably good stitch definition. Yarn weights ranging from fingering to Worsted would be suitable. As for colorways, I would recommend solid, semi-solid, speckled, or gradient (single skein or gradient set) yarns.
Yarns
Manos del Uruguay Serena (Sport, 60% Alpaca, 40% Cotton; 155 meters / 170 yards per 50 grams); MC: 2 skeins, CC: 1 skein.
The sample (large size) uses 75 grams in color S2110 Zinnia (MC), 35 grams in color S2680 Sea Urchin (CC).
The scarf (small size) uses 48 grams in color S2110 Zinnia (MC), (one might not need the 2nd skein of MC), 22 grams in color S2680 Sea Urchin (CC).
Needles
3 mm (US size 2.5) 60 cm / 24 inches circular needle or size to obtain gauge.
Gauge
26 stitches and 37 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette stitch, unblocked with MC.
20 stitches and 32 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stitch Pattern B – Twining Vines, blocked with MC.
Note: obtaining the gauge given is not crucial but will affect the finished size and the yardage needed.
Notions
Removable stitch markers (optional): 2 in color A (edge marker), 1,2 in color B (repeat marker). Tapestry needle. Blocking pins. Blocking wires (optional).
Sizes
Small (scarf), large (stole); easily customizable.
Final measurements
Small size (scarf): Width (w): 19.5 cm / 7.75 inches, length (l): 156 cm / 61.5 inches.
Large size (stole): Width (w): 31 cm / 12.25 inches, length (l): 156 cm / 61.5 inches.
