This shawl design came about as a desire to still cover my shoulders in the spring with a light weight shawl but not have to mess about with the tail ends of a shawl. Looping or tying the ends just never seems to suit me: the tie doesn’t stay put or it makes a huge knot that I don’t like. But I love the drape and general shape of shawls—what to do? I’ve been designing a fair amount of neck cowls recently so I thought: why don’t I just make this a longer looped cowl but drape it like a shawl and call it an infinity shawl? Yay!

An early reviewer pointed out to me that this design is also nicely adaptive for wheelchair users: no shawl ends to get untied or undone and then get accidentally caught in wheels or other hardware. Double yay!

I chose the word Zephyr as the perfect name to describe the very gentle breeze that this wrap is meant to counter and that also appears as gentle meandering waves bending this way and that in the main pattern section of the shawl. Just a few well-placed yarnovers and decreases create an easy to follow simple lace pattern with a strong graphic impact.

I am working on being more size inclusive in my patterns and so this wrap is offered in 5 different sizes: S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Triple yay! The pictured shawl is an XL and fits me (size range 18-22) beautifully hanging down to my waist in the front. Circumference of the shawl measures 45, 50, 55, 60, 70 inches when finished and blocked.

Yarn recommendations: Soft fingering weight yarn in solid or only very slightly tonal hues are recommended. Single ply yarns will yield a lovely soft drape here. Self-striping, highly variegated or speckled yarns are not appropriate; the pattern will be obscured.

Materials:
• Yarn: Manos Del Uruguay, Fino (fingering weight): 30% silk, 70% extrafine merino.
Size XL as shown: 490 yds or 100 g used (almost exactly one skein). S, M and L will thus use less than 100 g. (less than one skein), size XXL will need more than one skein (ca. 550-600 yds).

Gauge:
24 ST and 32 rows = 4 inches in blocked garter stitch. Gauge is not super important, it’s a shawl that is knit to size by altering the length.
