Wonderfully standard; these mittens were designed using a very basic construction with inexperienced knitters in mind. Have fun choosing yarn to dress up your mittens and make them your own. We used the wonderful hand dyed Madelinetosh Vintage yarn. The mittens are knit from the cuff up. You can knit the cuff n garter stitch as pictured, or try a knit one/purl one ribbing, or a knit two/purl two ribbing if you care to. Increases in the pattern make room for the widening palm and then an “after-thought” technique is employed for the thumb. This style of mitten leaves thumb stitches on hold while you finish up the rest of the mitten. Once the mitten is knit to the top, the knitter turns their attention back to the thumb and finishes it. The pattern contains a picture-tutorial that demonstrates this technique. Happy mitten making!

Finished Dimensions: to fit women’s hand (mitten can easily be adjusted for length to fit longer hand) width 10cm/4”, length of hand 16cm/6.25”, length of cuff 13cm/5”

Knitters must know how to cast on and knit, increase with M1, and decrease with K2tog. The pattern includes a pictorial tutorial on how to add the thumb with the “after thought” method.
