Finished bust circumference:
- 101 (112, 121, 132, 141, 152, 161, 172, 181) cm
- 40½ (45, 48½, 53, 56½, 61, 64½, 69, 72½)”
Designed to be worn with 20-25 cm / 8-10” positive ease around the chest.
To choose the most appropriate size, measure the wearer’s chest and add the preferred ease. Or measure the circumference of an already-owned sweater that fits well. Then find the closest finished chest circumference.
Yarn: Worsted weight, depending on the length of the sweater, allow approximately:
Main colour (MC):
- 410 (435, 460, 480, 485, 525, 535, 550, 560) m
- 450 (475, 500, 525, 535, 570, 585, 600, 615) yds
Contrast colour (CC):
- 555 (600, 645, 695, 745, 795, 885, 935, 995) m
- 610 (660, 705, 760, 815, 865, 965, 1020, 1090) yds
Yarn used in sample (size 2) is 5 balls of Rowan Hemp Tweed (75% wool and 25% hemp; 95 m 104 yds / 50 g) in colourway Almond as main colour, 4 balls of Mayflower Super Kid Silk (76% mohair, 24% silk; 195 m 213 yds / 25 g) in colourway Anthracite held together with ~310 g of worsted-weight hand-spun (combination gradient) (33% Polwarth wool, 33% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 34% merino; ~195 m 213 yds / 100 g) as contrast colour.
Gauge: 18 sts & 26 rows = 10 cm / 4” in colorwork Stockinette stitch in the round on larger needles, blocked.
Suggested needles:
- 4.5 mm (US 7) circulars 60-80 cm / 24-32”
- 4 mm (US 6) circulars 40-60 cm / 16-24”
Notions: Stitch markers, row counter, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, locking stitch markers or bobby-pins if using Japanese short rows.
Techniques used: Lifted increases, Japanese short rows, stranded colourwork.
Notes: The sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down. Neckline stitches are cast-on and yoke worked in the round down to underarms with raglan shaping. The body and sleeves are separated, the body is worked in the round straight down to the hem and finished with 2x2 rib. Sleeves are worked in the round with decreases down to the cuffs and finished with a 2x2 rib Stitches are picked up from the neckline cast-on edge and worked in the round in 2x2 rib to form the collar.
