Jamieson & Smith Shetland Aran Worsted (aran weight; 100% Shetland wool; 61m per 50g ball)
Auld Gold; 7 x 50g balls

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
1 pair 5.5mm US 9 knitting needles, or size needed to match tension
Cable needle (unless working the cabling without a cable needle technique)

TENSION
14 sts and 26 rows to 10cm [4in] over garter stitch using 5.5mm needles, before washing and blocking
12 sts and 18 rows to 10cm [4in] over garter stitch using 5.5mm needles, after washing and blocking
Cable panel A of 6 sts measures 3.5cm [1½in] wide, after washing and blocking
Cable panel B of 16 sts measures 9cm [3½in] wide, after washing and blocking

PATTERN NOTES
This pattern is provided in both charted and written formats. This month’s technique is to practise reading charted cable symbols, but many knitters find it helpful to start work from written instructions and then move to the chart once they have the pattern established. You can mix and match between the two formats as you please.
The pattern is essentially two cable borders, with a garter stitch centre. Shaping is worked in the garter stitch section to create an asymmetric shape, thus keeping your neck warm, but with less fabric where the scarf hangs.
