Happy year of the rat my friends! The lunar calendar has come full circle and the year of the rat is the 1st to win the zodiac race. Here I have made a small amigurumi for you to enjoy. I made these two for my son and his cousin for our festive Lunar New Year.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Materials: (You only need partial of each colourway)


Head & Body: Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Misty Grey

Shirt: Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Red Pillar
Buttons: Chunky Gold Yarn (If you don’t have, you can double aran weight gold yarn)

Button Loops: Aran Weight Gold Yarn

Crochet Hook 3.25mm

Tapestry Needle

Eyes: 2 amigurumi eyes (6mm)

Nose: 1 amigurumi eye in black (9mm) - please ensure the backing is not too big but secure.

Optional: blusher to colour inner ears, black yarn to embroider nose


Stitches: (US Crochet Terms)
MR: magic ring

ch: chain

sc: single crochet

inc: increase (2sc in one st)

dec: decrease (I prefer invisible decrease)

sl st: slip stitch

BLO: back loop only

BB: back bump or 3rd loop

FO: fasten off
