Yarmouth Marled Mitts
Simple and versatile, these fingerless mitts are perfect for a cool autumn walks, typing, texting, or even coloring. Worked in the round from the cuff up, the mitts feature an easy thumb gusset for extra comfort and contrast edgings that highlight the “marled” (two-color twist) wool. The Yarmouth Marled Mitts are sized to fit the average adult hand, but can be easily modified to make a larger or smaller mitt.
The gauge is 28 sts and 36 rows over 4” (10cm) in Stockinette Stitch, blocked.
This pattern is recommended for beginning knitters with just a bit of knitting experience. Techniques include basic ribbing and Stockinette Stitch, and basic increases using a backward loop.
For these mitts I used 1 ball of Knit Picks Palette Twist (100% Peruvian Highland Wool, fingering weight; 231 yards/50g) in Asphalt Twist #28698. I paired it with one ball of Knit Picks Palette in Asphalt Heather #24243. You can substitute any fingering weight yarn for this pattern. You will also need double pointed needles or 32” (80cm) circular needles for magic loop method in size US 4 (3.5mm) or size to obtain gauge, and one size smaller than size to obtain the gauge.
