A friend of mine saw a shawl similar to this somewhere and asked me to recreate it. I did my best to imitate the look of the shawl, but I cannot for sure say that it’s the same shawl. I thought I’d share the pattern with anyone who might be interested in a light but warm shawl made by striping thin cotton yarn with bulky single ply wool yarn (basic scribbling recipe). Because of the lightness of the bulky wool, this shawl can also be worn as a scarf by wrapping it around your neck. The finished product is classy and elegant for very little work.

A crochet hook is needed for an optional single crochet edging.

NOTE: Because this yarn is single ply bulky yarn, it really sheds. One way to work around this is to use hot water when blocking.

First, place a pot of water on the stove to boil. You’ll have to estimate how much water you need. Once the water boils, turn off the stove and remove the pot. VERY SLOWLY, slip one end of the finished project into the water and very slowly keep letting the fabric down into the water until it’s all in the water. DO NOT STIR OR AGITATE THE WATER OR SHAWL IN ANY WAY. Leave the water to completely cool (this might take a couple of hours). Once cold, take out the shawl, gently squeeze the water out, and block as usual.

Disclaimer: This is what I do. You can try it, but I make no assurances. If you want to try it, make a gauge swatch first and use the hot water process to see if it works before applying this process to your finished shawl.
