In downtown Portland, Oregon, there’s a colorful, cheery shop called Woonwinkel. My sister, Kristin, is the genius behind this amazing shop that carries “modern, colorful, inviting pieces from all over the world.”

And her shop was my inspiration to create a modern, colorful and inviting hat both to knit and to wear. A PINK hat…in honor of the fabulous PINK color on Woonwinkel’s walls!

This pattern is suited to an advanced beginner and calls for the following skills: casting on, knit, purl, basic cable stitches, decreases.

The allover cables are easy to work; a simple chart and written instructions are provided. Top the hat off using a trendy “faux fur pom”; I chose a grey color, but a white, black or pink one would also do nicely.

Sizes
Size: Child (ages 5 to 12)
16 (41 cm) circumference unstretched, stretches to fit head circumferences of 17” - 20” (43 cm - 51 cm).
7.5” (19 cm) length from base to top of crown, unstretched.

Size: Teen/Adult Female
18” (46 cm) circumference, unstretched, stretches to fit head circumference of 20” -22” (51 cm to 56 cm)
9” (23 cm) length from base to top of crown, unstretched.

Gauge:
22 sts = 4” (10 cm) and 28 rnds = 4” (10cm) working in Cable Chart (see p.2). Work swatch on U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) needles or
needles required to match gauge. It’s best to knit your gauge swatch in the round and block it for the most accurate results.

Yarn
Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 #9478 Cotton Candy (220 yds/200 m per 100g/3.5 oz), 1 skein, OR substitute a worsted weight yarn in any color.

Notions
Cable needle, stitch markers, yarn needle, faux fur pom pom if desired.
