Winter's Bloom
Thick and thin yarn is exciting to buy but a bit challenging to find the right pattern so it lingers in stash until gifting season. When you’re faced with a short gifting time frame, grab your big needles and knit your favorite bulky thick-and-thin yarn up into a gift hat pronto!
Winter’s Bloom is knit bottom up with bulky thick-and-thin yarn held double with a worsted weight yarn.
Modeled picture shows L/XL on 22.5”/57cm head using Koi Pond doubled with a chestnut brown. The other sample features Kimono doubled with a natural white.

Fit:
The stretchy rib pattern fits across a variety of sizes which helps alleviate fit questions when gifting, especially when the recipient is hundreds of miles away!
S/M fits 16-19”/40.5-48cm
L/XL fits 19-23”/48-58.5cm
Yarn:
Although Bamboo Bloom is classified as bulky weight, a majority of the skein is more like worsted weight. If you are substituting yarn, please take this into consideration as a true bulky weight yarn (bulky throughout) would affect gauge and fabric.
Yardage (for largest size):
70yds each:
- Universal Yarn Bamboo Bloom (bulky) and
- KnitPicks Wool of the Andes (worsted), Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride (worsted) or equivalent worsted yarn. Yarn is held double.
Needles:
US11 (8mm) 16”/40cm circular and/or DPNs, or size needed to meet gauge
Longer circulars can be used for magic loop or 2 circulars.
Skill Level:
Beginner
