Winterberry Shawlette
Sock yarn with a slow color change turns this simple pattern into a work of art. Even a beginner will have no trouble with this design.
Done all in garter from the neck down, beginning with a simple garter tab, the shawl requires no purling at all and lays flat without any tendency to curl. The lace edging has only one row of instructions, which are written out (no chart.) On the wrong side, you work the yarn- overs through the back loop to close the increases up. This makes a subtle line down the center, rather than an obvious “spine.”
Exact gauge is not important. The shawl will grow quite a bit when you give it a soak. It does not require hard blocking--just spread it out on a flat surface to dry.
This would be a great choice for your first neck-down lace shawl. You may want one in every colorway!
Note: In the lace section, rows (6, 7, & 8) and rows (10, 11, & 12) are the same as rows (2, 3, & 4), ie, K3, yo, knit all stitches across, yo, k3.)
