Pattern description from Weekend Knitting: “Yes, you can actually sit on this chair, and you need not be dainty about it. Made out of nylon twine from the hardware store, the seat is very sturdy and unlikely to stretch. Although if it does, there is a solution: Pour boiling water over it, which will shrink the nylon. Designer Annie Modesitt like to knit seats for chairs she finds at yarn sales, which means oftentimes she can complete the project, including all of the materials, for under twenty dollars. The pattern included instructions for adapting the seat for chairs of different sizes since, when you’re relying on yard sales for your materials, you can’t be too picky about dimensions.”

Finished Measurements: For chair shown, seat measures approximately 11” wide across the back support rail, 10” deep at each side, and 16” wide across the front support rail. Your own chair will determine the measurements for you project.

Notions: Stitch Markers, T-pins, large curved darning needle with eye to fit twine (Chibi brand suggested, available from sewing supply stores), cable needle (cn) clothespins or tape (optional)

Additional Gauge: 3.25 stitches and 3.75 rows = 1” in Stockinette stitch (St st). The correct gauge for your project should be determined by swatching.
