Wildwood Cabled Pullover
A mesmerizing Celtic cable is the focal point for Melissa’s classic-style pullover. The complex twisting cables are mysterious and alluring, much like a woodland path canopied by writhing oak limbs or a an apple orchard shrouded in wild grapevine. Densely knit wool sweaters are a New England wardrobe staple, and this is a great sweater to wear for a walk in the woods on a brisk fall day.
This sweater is knit with Upland Wool and Alpaca—the softer sister yarn to my Upland Wool and Mohair featured in the Springdelle Jacket. The yarn has a rustic pedigree: the wool comes from our fine-wool crossbred sheep. Many Cocoa daughters, granddaughters, and grandsons contribute to this yarn, and so the yarn’s natural colors vary from charcoal to silver to oatmeal, depending on the composition of the flock in any given year. Hand-selected colored alpaca fleece adds warmth to this single-ply yarn, spun at a local woolen mill. -- Barbara Parry, from Adventures in Yarn Farming
