YARN (Smaller / cream): DK weight yarn, approx. 175m / 191 yards.
Shown in 4ply sock yarn held together with Fyberspates Cumulus (74% Baby Suri Alpaca, 26% Silk, 150m per 25g ball). This combination knits up as a true DK weight.

YARN (Larger / blue): worsted weight yarn, approx. 207m / 226 yards.
Shown in dLana La Madrilana DK (100% merino, 235m per 100g skein). This yarn is labelled as DK but definitely knits up as worsted.

GAUGE (smaller): 30 sts and 35 rows to 4 inches / 10cm in cable stitch pattern, blocked. Suggested needle size 3.75mm.

GAUGE (larger): 27.5 sts and 32 rows to 4 inches / 10cm in cable stitch pattern, blocked. Suggested needle size 4.5mm.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS:
3.25mm & 3.75mm (smaller hat) OR 4mm & 4.5mm needles (larger hat) of your preferred length for working small circumferences in the round, eg. DPNs, magic loop, short circulars.

SIZING: both versions use the same stitch count, however the cream version used a lighter weight yarn combination and fewer rows of the cable pattern before beginning crown decreases. This results in a smaller and shallower hat (child / adult small). This sample used 3.25mm needle for the brim and 3.75mm needle for the main hat. The finished hat measures 17” circumference.

Blue sample used a thicker yarn and more rows of the cable pattern before beginning crown decreases. This results in a more generous fit (adult medium / large). This sample used 4mm needle for the brim and 4.5mm for the main hat. The finished hat measures 18.5” circumference.
