Errata: On the left shoulder shaping, there should be 3 (5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 7) rows worked even after the last dec row, which will end you after a WS row, ready to begin the cap shaping on a RS row.

This side-to-side Cardigan includes some of my favorite fundamental seamless-knitting techniques: a provisional cast-on, three-needle bind-offs, and short-rows. For someone new to short-rows, the sleeve cap short-rows are optional; however, the short- rows on the collar are not if you want the shawl collar.

The difference between these two sets of short-rows is that on the optional sleeve cap short-rows the wrapped stitch needs to be hidden by working the wrap together with the stitch it wraps; but the necessary shawl collar short- rows are much easier! When working short-rows in garter stitch, the wrap doesn’t need to be hidden because it blends into the stitch pattern. So if short- rows are something new to you, feel free to omit the sleeve cap short-rows, but I suggest giving the collar short-rows a try. If you’re unsure, try swatching some short-rows in garter stitch, following the collar instructions, to see how they feel before getting started on the sweater.

Gauge
