The doll body is made from size 10 crochet cotton and the larger hook. Use a stiffer cotton, like Aunt Lydia’s, instead of a soft cotton, like Knit PIcks Curio. The stiffer cotton makes a better doll body.

The hair can be made with size 10 crochet cotton, laceweight wool, or fingering weight wool.

The clothing is made from size 20 crochet cotton and the smaller hook. Size 8 perle cotton could also be used.

Very small amounts of thread for the body and clothing are needed to make this doll. She has a pretty full head of hair, so a bit more yarn is needed for this, but far less than a full skein.

The name for the doll was inspired by this quote from the Gospel of Mark, in an effort to channel my anger and frustration regarding the treatment of immigrant families and their children at our border; it applies to children of all ethnicities and backgrounds:

“Whoever welcomes a child like this welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me…And whoever shall cause one of these little ones to stumble, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged on his neck and that he were thrown into the sea.” Mark 9:36-37, 42.
