This shawl is inspired by the ethereal artwork created by frost and snow during winter and named for Jadis, the icy queen who ruled C. S. Lewis’s Narnia. The body of the wrap is a fairly simple geometric lace, which begins as nearly solid fabric in the center and becomes more open toward the borders as sparkly beads trickle in like ice shimmering in sunlight. The bottom edges feature more elaborate lace and numerous beads. The shawl is worked seamlessly from a provisional cast-on to both ends, which allows its size to be easily customized (450 glass seed beads size 8/0 3.1mm).

July 4, 2015 - misprint found in the Snowflakes chart in the original magazine version - Row 6 lace stitches belong on the right side in Row 5; Row 6 should be simply purled along with all of the other wrong side rows.

Missing stitch symbols in the Icicles chart in the original magazine version:
Row 89, stitch #8 in the Right Edge should be ssk and stitch #1 in the Left Edge should be k2tog.
Row 131, Pattern Repeat, stitch #6 should be ssk and stitch #18 should be k2tog.

NOTES

• The shawl begins with a provisional cast-on at the top of one of the deep borders, which is worked first. Live stitches are then picked up from the cast-on, and the center of the shawl is worked next (this is where the length of the piece can be customized), followed by the second border.
• Icicles chart shows odd-numbered right-side rows only; purl all wrong side rows.
