We’ve all done it. Picked up a beautiful single skein on a whim that just begged to go home with us, then left it sitting un-knit because it’s so hard to find a pattern that uses just one skein, regardless of the size, and lets the dye job shine. This pattern adapts to the yarn you have with very little fuss. A single skein of fingering-weight yarn (like madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light) will give you a nice little shawlette to wear around your neck; a big single skein of worsted (like Miss Babs Yowza) gives you a big, cozy shawl. If there’s another border you’d prefer, feel free to substitute it! This pattern invites customization at every turn.
It is helpful to have a scale available to weigh your yarn, especially if you are working with limited yardage. The shawl is constructed from side-to-side and then stitches are picked up along the bottom for the border.
Skills required:
• Increasing
• Decreasing
• Yarn overs
• Picking up stitches (super-easy in the loops from the yarn overs at the start of every other row)
There’s a chat thread for this pattern here.
