Notes:
This pattern for an aran jumper by Wendy Yarns was given away free to readers of the Sunday Times Magazine in the early 1980s. It is an A3 sheet, photocopied on both sides and folded in half. It has no front illustration; the pattern starts on the front page.

It is a very decorative aran jumper with a large wheatsheaf motif 80 rows high covering most of the front, and surrounded by bobbles.

Description:
As detailed above, the garment is in two sizes, and actual measurements are as follows: around chest 44/48ins or 112/122cm; length 22.5/26.5in or 57/67cm. (There are also instructions for extending the length of the first size to 26.5in/67cm.) Sleeve seam 19.5/20in or 49/51cm; total measurement cuff to centre back neck edge 31.5/33.25in or 80/84cm (adjustable).

The standard-length jumper takes 19-24 x 50g balls of the recommended yarn, and the longer first size takes 21 x 50g balls. A cable needle is required and a large crochet hook (size unspecified) is optional.

The pattern has one chart for the large wheatsheaf motif which is on the front of the jumper, and other cable patterns are given as written instructions, i.e. zig-zag panel, twist panel, twist and cable panel and double moss stitch. The large wheatsheaf motif is completed with self-coloured embroidery. The optional crochet hook is used to crochet a chain which appears to tie around the wheatsheaf, but this can be done with plaited yarn.

The collar is knitted separately then attached to the neckline.
