Construction of your new sweater begins with a ribbed neckline, which is worked in rows, then joined to form the foundation for crocheting in the round. From there, you’ll work the yoke, shaping it with smooth, consistent increases to contour beautifully around the shoulders and upper body using optional short rows.
(What’s a short row? Short rows are a clever technique that adds gentle shaping by working only partway across a row before turning. When added at the neckline, they slightly raise the back of the neck so the sweater fits more naturally and comfortably — mimicking the way our bodies are built (since our necks don’t sit perfectly flat!). If you prefer a simpler, boxier silhouette, you can skip the short rows for a straight, even neckline that’s clean and modern. This pattern includes directions for both styles!)
Once the yoke is complete, the stitches are divided to separate the sleeves from the body. The body is then crocheted downward to the hem ribbing, while the sleeves are completed individually and finished with ribbed cuffs for a clean, structured look.
Because this sweater is worked from the top down, you can try it on as you go — making it easy to customize the length, fit, and style to suit your unique wardrobe.
A video tutorial is included in the pattern.
