The whale has been a symbol of our oceans but yet persecuted in many ways for a long time.

This beanie features a whale tail on a rolling sea with a shell beach. There is an option for a plain band, and for using multiple colors for the ocean. It is knitted in the round and the whale tail knitted separately and attached after blocking.

Instructions are given for small and large sizes:
When knitted with sport and worsted weight yarns, this gives sizes 20” (51 cm) and 23” (58 cm). These correspond to small and large adult sizes. You may use any sport and worsted weight yarn.

When knitted with sport and DK weight yarns, this gives sizes 18” (46 cm) and 21” (53 cm). These correspond to child and medium adult sizes. You may use any sport and DK weight yarn.

The whale tail can be knitted with fingering (12 yds) or sport weight (18 yds) yarn.

An intermediate knitter should be fine with this pattern.
