A walk along the seaside, seagulls screaming above you and the wind is getting rough.

This rustique cardigan is going to be your best companion in upcoming chilly weather. The dark yarn for the main body and all the colourful details make it easy to wear with jeans and boots and to create a relaxed, unpretentious look.

As most of my garments this makes no exception and is knitted in pieces bottom up to be sewn together after a wet blocking. The sleeves have sleeve caps for a good tailored fit. The shoulder seam is closed by a 3-needle-bind-off. The button band, buttonhole band and neckband are worked after seaming the pieces together.

I know, a lot of knitters out there hate knitting in pieces and sew them together. But the seams give more fit and structure, keep the garment from wearing out and loosing shape. And: you only carry small pieces with you when knitting in public.

You don’t care about seams for structure? You don’t mind carrying a big project in your project bag? But you want to knit this cardigan? Please, don’t get intimidated. If you are a skilled knitter you will find it easy to change the pattern for working the body in one piece. You can separate fronts and back when working the armholes and finish them separately. Also, you can easily modify the sleeves to be knitted in rounds and change to rows for the sleeve cap. In the end you will only have to sew the sleeves into place. (These modifications are not included in this pattern).

How ever you decide to work your “Wellenbrecher” cardigan: have fun with choosing the colours. Feel free to add as many or as less colours as you like. You can easily use up left over skeins for this. You like to go with my colours and have left overs? What about the matching “Marschland” cuffs and hat?

Ein Spaziergang am Meer, die Möwen schreiben am Himmel und der Wind wird rauer.

Diese rustikale Strickjacke wird euer liebster Begleiter bei aufkommendem Schmuddelwetter sein. Das dunkle Garn in Kombination mit farbenfrohen Details lässt viele Styling Möglichkeiten zu. Tragt sie zu Jeans und Stiefeln und kreiert einen entspannten, legeren Wohlfühllook.

Wie die meisten meiner Kleidungsstücke wird auch dieses in Einzelteilen gestrickt, die im Anschluss, nach dem Spannen, zusammengenäht werden. Die Ärmel werden mit Armkugel gearbeitet, damit sie einen passgenauen Sitz garantieren. Die Schulter naht wird durch zusammen abketten geschlossen. Knopfloch-, Knopfleiste und Ausschnittbündchen werden nach dem Zusammennähen gearbeitet.

Ich weiß, eine Anzahl StrickerInnen hasst das lästige Zusammennähen. Allerdings geben die Nähte Struktur und Stabilität und sorgen dafür, dass die Jacke lange die Form hält ohne auszuleiern. Und: man trägt immer nur ein kleines Strickprojekt in der Tasche mit sich herum, wenn man unterwegs in der Öffentlichkeit strickt.

Dir sind Nähte und Stabilität egal? Es macht dir nichts aus, ein großes Strickprojekt in der Tasche zu tragen? Aber du möchtest diese Jacke trotzdem stricken? Bitte, lass dich nicht abschrecken. Wenn du ein/e erfahrene/r StrickerIn bist, wirst du sehr leicht die Anleitung anpassen können, so dass du zumindest den Körper in einem Stück stricken kannst. Du kannst für die Armlöcher die Vorderteile und das Rückenteil trennen und separat fertig stellen. Die Ärmel lassen sich bis zur Armkugel leicht in Runden arbeiten, so dass lediglich die Kugel in Reihen gearbeitet werden muss. Schlussendlich brauchen nur die Ärmel eingenäht werden. (Die vorgenannten Modifikationen sind nicht in der Anleitung enthalten).

Wie auch immer du dich entscheidest, deine “Wellenbrecher” Jacke zu arbeiten: ich wünsche dir viel Spaß bei der Farbauswahl. Fühl dich frei, so viele oder wenige Kontrastfarben zu nutzen, wie du möchtest. Hierfür lassen sich auch prima Garnreste aus dem Wollvorrat aufbrauchen. Wenn du dich für meine Farbauswahl entscheidest, und hinterher noch einige Reste hast, wie wäre es mit den passenden “Marschland” Ärmelstulpen und Mütze?
