Stylish and casual – that’s the Welkin cardigan! A classic, comfortable cut mixes here with an eye-catching and unusually constructed collar, that gives this project a sophisticated look. Welkin is a classic and comfortable unisex cardigan with a slightly relaxed fit, a V-neckline and an interestingly shaped lapel collar. The body and sleeves are made using Reverse Stockinette stitch and finished with a classic 2x2 rib. The collar is made using Garter stitch, which nicely emphasizes its unique shape.

Notes:
Welkin is worked seamlessly from the top down. Fronts stitches are cast on using a provisional cast on and, after shoulder and neckline shaping, worked straight down to the underarm. Stitches for the back are picked up along the front shoulders and cast on in the middle of the neck. After shoulder shaping back is worked straight down to the underarm. Shoulders are shaped using German short rows. Back and fronts are joined together and continued straight in one piece down to the hem. Sleeves stitches are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round down to the cuffs. Hem and cuffs are worked in 2x2 rib. Placket stitches are picked up along the front openings and worked in 2x2 rib as well. Collar stitches are picked up along the neckline and back neck, finished with Garter stitch and shaped using German short rows.

De Rerum Natura Gilliatt (100g-250m/273yds; shade: Amarante) or other Worsted weight yarn: around 875 (950, 1025, 1100, 1175, 1288, 1375, 1438, 1550) m / 957 (1039, 1121, 1203, 1285, 1409, 1504, 1573, 1695) yards.

Gauge:
17.5 sts x 29 rows - 10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4” in Reverse Stockinette st pattern, using 5 mm US 8 needles, after blocking.

17 sts x 40 rows - 10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4” in Garter st pattern, using 4 mm US 6 needles, after blocking.
